Key Stage 5

Meaning

A down-quark (d) is a type of quark with a charge of \(-\frac{1}{3}\).

About Down-quarks

The down-quark is denoted with a lower case d.
There are two down-quarks in a neutron and only one down-quark in a proton.
Quark Charge/e Strangeness Baryon Number Lepton Number

Down-quark

\(Q=-\frac{1}{3}\) \(S=0\) \(B=+\frac{1}{3}\) \(L=0\)

Antidown-quark

\(Q=+\frac{1}{3}\) \(S=0\) \(B=-\frac{1}{3}\) \(L=0\)
