A bronchus is one of two tubes coming off the trachea and going into the lungs.

Singular Noun: Bronchus
Plural Noun: Bronchi

Adaptations of the Bronchi

The bronchi are covered in cartilage to stop them from closing when the lungs take in Oxygen.
The bronchi contain specialsed cells which release mucus in order to trap micro-organisms and dust to prevent them entering the alveoli in the lungs.
The inner lining of the trachea is covered in ciliated epithelial cells to sweep the mucus up away from the the alveoli in the lungs.

There are two bronchi, one for each lung.
The bronchi connect each lung to the trachea.
