Elastic Limit

Key Stage 4
Meaning
The elastic limit is the maximum force which can be applied before an object stops behaving elastically and starts to behave plastically (inelastically).
About the Elastic Limit
- When an object reaches its elastic limit it will break.
- When an object experiences a force smaller than the elastic limit then its extension is proportional to the equilibrium force applied.
- When an object experiences a force greater than the elastic limit then its extension is not proportional to the equilibrium force applied. It will continue to extend with a constant force.
