Meaning

A fundamental particle is a particle which is not made of any smaller particles.

About Fundamental Particles

Fundamental particles cannot be split into smaller particles.
Leptons are fundamental particles as they are not made of any smaller units of matter.
Quarks are believed to be fundamental particles. However, they have never been observed on their own. They always exists in either a triplet of quarks or a quark-antiquark pair.
Photons are fundamental particles as they are not made of smaller particles.
