All living things need warmth to survive. If they get too cold they will freeze and die. If they get to hot they will lose water and die. Some creatures do this by keeping their temperature constant. Other creatures do this by moving to warm places when they are cold and moving to cold places when they are too hot.

Living creatures that live on land also need oxygen in the air to survive.

All land creatures need to take in oxygen. If they don't they will die in a few minutes.
Dolphins, Whales and seals all get oxygen from the air too, but they hold their breath for a long time to go under water.
Fish do not breath, but they still need oxygen. They use gills to get the oxygen that is in the water.
