To convert from [[kilo]] to the base unit you must times by 1000.
: 5km = 5x1000m = 5000m
: 12km = 12x1000m = 12000m
: 3.4km = 3.4x1000m = 3400m
: 0.53km = 0.53x1000m = 530m
: 0.082km = 0.082x1000m = 82m

To convert to [[kilo]] from a base unit you must divide by 1000.
: 23000m = (23000/1000)km = 23km
: 8200m = (8200/1000)km = 8.2km
: 670m = (670/1000)km = 0.67km
