Key Stage 3
Meaning
Millilitres (ml) are a unit for measuring the volume of an object.
About Metres Cubed
- Millilitres are shortened to ml with a lower case m and a lower case 'l'.
- Millilitres (ml) are the same volume as Centimetres Cubed (cm3).
- A pipette can hold around 3ml.
- Beakers can range in volume from 25ml to 1000ml.
Convert to Millilitres
Unit | To convert | Millilitres |
1 centimetre cubed (1cm3) | Convert to ml x1. | 1ml |
1 Metre cubed (1m3) | Convert to ml x1000,000. | 1000,000ml |
1 litre (1L) | Convert to ml x1000. | 1000ml |
Key Stage 4
Meaning
Millilitres (ml) are a unit of volume 1,000,000 times smaller than the SI Unit of the metre cubed.
About Millilitres
- Millilitres are shortened to ml with with a lower case m and a lower case l.
- Millilitres (ml) are the same volume as centimetres cubed (cm3).
- A Millilitre is the volume of a cube with sides of 1cm each. Since a centimetre is 0.01 metres then a millilitre is 0.01 x 0.01 x 0.01 metres cubed (0.000001m3).
Convert to Millilitres
Unit | To convert | Millilitres |
1 metre cubed (1m3) | Convert to ml x106. | 1x106ml |
1 litre (1l) | Convert to ml x103. | 1x103ml |
1 decimetre cubed (1dm3) | Convert to ml x103. | 1x103ml |
1 centimetre cubed (1cm3) | Convert to ml x1. | 1ml |
1 millilitre (1ml) | Convert to ml x1. | 1ml |
