Meaning
Platelets are a part of the blood that helps it clot when there is an open wound.
About Platelets
- Platelets make up less than 1% of the blood.
- Platelets are pieces of dead red blood cells.
- When blood escapes a blood vessel the platelets bind together to form a blood clot. However, sometimes a blood clot can form inside a blood vessel and block a blood vessel.
A diagram showing the percentages of the different parts that make up blood. |
