A bird is an animal with a backbone and feathers.

Birds lay eggs with a hard shell.

Most, but not all, birds can fly.

Birds all have beaks and no teeth.


A Robin is known as a song bird for the sounds it makes.	A chicken is a livestock bird used for eggs and meat.	An Ostrich is a flightless bird.

This sea bird is called an Albatross.	A Puffin is a sea bird with a colourful beak.	An Eagle is called a bird of prey because it hunts and kills other animals.

A bird begins its life in a hard shelled egg.	When the egg hatches the bird has small fluffy feathers and needs its parents to bring food and it cannot fly. This chick is called a signet.	An adult bird has large smooth feathers and most can fly. This adult is called a swan.
