Meaning

Load is the amount of solid material carried by a river.

About Load

The speed of the water flowing in a river can affect how much material can be carried.
Faster water can move larger pieces of material increasing the load of the river.
When the speed of water slows down some material drops to the river bed and so the load decreases.
