Meaning
Implantation is a stage of conception in which an embryo sticks to the wall of the uterus and is surrounded by tissue from the lining of the uterus.
About Implantation
- If implantation does not occur the embryo is aborted by the uterus.
- Following implantation the tissue surrounding the embryo becomes the placenta and amnion.
- Following fertilisation implantation can be prevented by contraceptive measures including:
- The Intrauterine Device - Already present in the uterus prior to intercourse.
- The morning after pill - Taken after intercourse in which a another contraceptive measure either failed or was not used.
