Key Stage 4

Meaning

Embryonic Stem Cells are undifferentiated cells found in an embryo which can become any type of specialised cell in an organism.

About Embryonic Stem Cells

Embryonic stem cells can become specific specialised cells when placed next to those cells in a tissue.
Human embryonic stem cells are taken from aborted human embryos or spare embryos gathered during IVF.
Embyronic stem cells can be used to repair damaged tissue in adult organisms.
Many people are against the use of embryonic stem cells in medicine because they are gathered from embryos which will then die as a result.
