Key Stage 5
Meaning
Boyle's Law states that for a fixed mass of gas at constant temperature, the product of its pressure and volume is constant.
About Boyle's Law
- Expressed mathematically as 𝑃×𝑉=constant
- Describes the inverse relationship between the pressure and volume of a gas.
- Assumes ideal gas behaviour.
- Applicable in various real-world scenarios such as breathing and syringes.
Formula
\(𝑃\times𝑉=constant\)
Where:
𝑃 is pressure
and
𝑉 is volume
When there is a change of pressure and volume of a known amount of a substance at constant temperature the following formula can be used\[𝑃_1\times𝑉_1=𝑃_2\times𝑉_2\]
Where the number represents before and after the change.
