The four seasons in a year.

A year is the time it takes for all four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter to happen. This is 365 days.

Singular Noun: Year

Plural Noun: Years

The new year starts on January the 1st.

A year does not take exactly 365 days so every four years there is an extra day added. This is called a leap year.

A year is the time it takes for the Earth to go once around The Sun.

A year on Earth takes around 365 days.

A year is the time it takes for a planet to orbit once around a star.


A planet travels around The Sun in an orbit. Once around The Sun is one year.

A year on Earth takes 365.25 days.

To make out calendars fit the 0.25 extra days each year we have a leap year every 4 years where a day is added to the end of February.

The seasons change over the year due to the tilt of the Earth.
