Key Stage 4

Meaning

Blue shift is the apparent change in the visible spectrum from an object towards the blue end due to the object moving towards the observer.

About Blue Shift

Blue shift can be seen by observing the absorption spectra in light coming from an object. If the object is moving towards the observer the absorption lines will be shifted towards the blue end of the spectrum.
The absorption lines from a star have been blue shifted showing that the star is moving towards the observer.
