Key Stage 4

Meaning

Decimetres Cubed (dm3) are a unit of volume that is 1000 times smaller than the SI Unit of the metres cubed.

About Decimetres Cubed

Decimetres Cubed are shortened to dm3 with with a lower case d and a lower case m and an indices of 3.
A decimetre cubed is the volume of a cube with sides of 10cm each. Since a decimetre is 0.1 metres then a decimetre cubed is 0.1 x 0.1 x 0.1 metres cubed (0.001m3).
A decimetre cubed is the same volume as a litre.
Decimetres Cubed (dm3) are used in chemistry for the volume of gases produced in chemical reactions.
1 mol of gas has a volume of 24dm3 at Standard Temperature and Pressure.

Convert to Decimetres Cubed

Unit To convert Decimetres Cubed
1 metre cubed (1m3) Convert to dm3 x103. 1x103dm3
1 litre (1l) Convert to dm3 x1. 1x1dm3
1 decimetre cubed (1dm3) Convert to dm3 x1. 1dm3
1 centimetre cubed (1cm3) Convert to dm3 x10-3. 1x10-3dm3
1 millilitre (1ml) Convert to dm3 x10-3. 1x10-3dm3
