Key Stage 4

Meaning

The genome is all of the genetic material in a cell.

About the Genome

In a multicellular organism each diploid cell contains an entire genome.
The genome of a haploid cell is half the DNA needed to produce a new organism.
The genome of individuals is now being used in medicine to tailor specific drugs and other therapies to their genetic code.
For people with inherited disorders new treatments can target the specific part of their genome to treat the cause of the condition rather than just treating the symptoms.
