Key Stage 4

Meaning

Geoengineering is are an attempt to control the average temperature of the Earth's surface.

About Geoengineering

Some scientists are investigating methods of geoengineering to mitigate global warming to prevent climate change.

These methods include:

  • Solar Radiation Management - Reflecting sunlight back into space before it warms the Earth's surface.
    • Spraying Sulphates into the high atmosphere to reflect light.
    • Placing giant mirrors into space to reflect sunlight away.
    • Painting large areas of land white to reflect sunlight away.
  • Carbon Dioxide Sequestration - Removing Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere.
