If you set out to prove a hypothesis is correct it is too easy to cheat. If your hypothesis was that you're the tallest person in school it would be easy to walk into a classroom full of younger children and say "after testing 25 people I was the tallest". However, if you tried to prove yourself wrong you would walk into a classroom full of the oldest students in school. That way, if you were the tallest in that group, it would be more likely to be true that you are the tallest in school.
