Key Stage 2

A diagram of two Newton meters, one with a weight attached.

Meaning

A Newton meter is a tool for measuring force.

Key Stage 3

Meaning

A Newton meter is a measuring instrument used to measure the strength of a force.

About Newton Meters

Newton meters measure force in Newtons.
There are different Newton meters with a different scale. Some can measure to the nearest Newton, others can measure to the nearest 0.1 Newtons.

Key Stage 4

Meaning

A Newton meter is a measuring instrument used to measure the magnitude of a force in a particular direction.

About Newton Meters

Newton meters measure force in Newtons.
Different Newton meters may have different resolutions.
To get an accurate reading from a Newton meter it should be calibrated first to check that when there is no force the Newton meter reads zero.
