Key Stage 3

Meaning

Newton Metres are the scientific unit for a moment (the turning effect of a force).

About Newton Metres

Newton metres are shortened to Nm with an upper case N and a lower case m.
A newton metre is a single Newton of force causing a turning effect 1 metre away from a pivot.

Key Stage 4

Meaning

Newton Metres are the SI Unit of moments.

About Newton Metres

Newton metres are shortened to Nm with an upper case N and a lower case m.
A Newton metre is a single Newton of force causing a turning effect 1 metre away from a pivot.
If there is no turning effect of a force but there is a force applied over a distance then a Newton metre may refer to the work done in Joules. In this case 1J = 1Nm.
