Closed Isolated System

Key Stage 4

Meaning

Closed isolated systems are systems in which neither mass nor energy get in or out.

About Systems

A system is an object or a group of objects being studied.
In closed isolated systems energy cannot enter and escape. Any change in temperature is caused by the changes within that system.
In a closed isolated system mass cannot enter or leave.
In closed isolated systems both the laws of Conservation of Energy and Conservation of Mass can be observed.
Perfectly closed isolated systems are not possible. However, for an experiment an opaque sealed contained which is thermally insulated is close to a closed isolated system.
