Danger of Electrocution

Key Stage 3

The hazard symbol for the danger of electrocution.

Meaning

A danger of electrocution is when there is electricity at such a large potential difference that it could pass through a living organism.

About Danger of Electrocution

A danger of electrocution is caused by one object being at a different voltage to another object leading to a potential difference between the two objects. If that potential difference is large enough it will cause an electrical current to pass through the body.
Electrocution may cause burns down the path the electricity flows or it may stop the heart from beating because the heart relies on electrical signals to beat.
