High level nuclear waste is nuclear waste which extremely radioactive but will not remain so for more than a few decades due to a short half life.

About High Level Nuclear Waste

After around 50 years high level nuclear waste becomes Intermediate Level Nuclear Waste.
High level nuclear waste requires shielding to prevent irradiation of living organisms and containment to prevent contamination of the environment.
High level nuclear waste releases a lot of energy which increases the temperature of the material so it requires cooling to prevent it heating up so much that melts or catches fire.
