Key Stage 4
Meaning
Investigate the effects of a variable on the temperature change during the reaction between two chemicals.

Method
Temperature Change and Volume of Alkali used to Neutralise an Acid
#Measure exactly 30ml 2M Hydrochloric Acid using a Measuring Cylinder.
#Add the 30ml of Hydrochloric Acid to a polystyrene cup.
#Add a lid with thermometer through the middle to measures the starting temperature of the solution.
#Using Measuring Cylinder (that has not been used for the acid) measure exactly 5ml 2M Sodium Hydroxide solution.
#Briefly remove the lid to add the 5ml Sodium Hydroxide solution to the polystyrene cup.
#Return the lid immediately and stir with the thermometer while observing the temperature. Once the temperature stops increasing, record this temperature.
#Repeat steps 4-6 until a total of 40ml of Sodium Hydroxide solution has been added.
