Up-quark
Key Stage 5
Meaning
An up-quark (u) is a type of quark with a charge of \(+\frac{2}{3}\).
About Up-quarks
- The up-quark is denoted with a lower case u.
- There are two up-quarks in a proton and only one up-quark in a neutron.
Quark | Charge/e | Strangeness | Baryon Number | Lepton Number |
\(Q=+\frac{2}{3}\) | \(S=0\) | \(B=+\frac{1}{3}\) | \(L=0\) | |
\(Q=-\frac{2}{3}\) | \(S=0\) | \(B=-\frac{1}{3}\) | \(L=0\) |
