Meaning

A seed that is has germinated.
Germination is when a seed breaks open and the plant starts to grow.
About Germination
- A seed needs the right conditions to germinate.
- A seed needs enough water to germinate.
- A seed will not germinate if it is too cold or too hot.
- A seed will not germinate if the soil is poisonous to the plant.
Key Stage 2
Meaning
Germination is when the roots and shoots grow from the seed.
Experiments
Germination and Water
- 1. Get 2 pots with cotton wool in them.
- 2. Place 10 cress seeds in each pot.
- 3. Water 1 pot every day but do not water the other pot.
- 4. Observe the pots after 1 week.
Germination and Temperature
- 1. Get 2 pots with cotton wool in them.
- 2. Place 10 cress seeds in each pot.
- 3. Place 1 pot in a fridge with a glass door, so light can get in.
- 4. Place the other pot on top of the same fridge.
