Meaning

A meristem is plant tissue containing undifferentiated stem cells at root and shoot tips that can divide to produce specialised cells.

About the Meristem

Usually only cells in the meristem can divide for the plant to grow. Other cells can only elongate.
Cells in the meristem are affected by plant hormones like auxin and gibberellin.
