The backbone (spine) of a human.

A vertebrate is an animal with a backbone.

About Vertebrates

A vertebrate animal has a spine running down its back.
Vertebrate animals usually also have a ribcage.
There are 5 groups of vertebrates:
  • Amphibian
  • Bird
  • Fish
  • Mammal
  • Reptile

Classification of Vertebrates

All Amphibians are vertebrates. All Birds are vertebrates. All Fish are vertebrates. All Mammals are vertebrates. All Reptiles are vertebrates.
