Key Stage 3
Meaning
Conservation of Energy is a Scientific Law which states that "Energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only be transferred from one store into another".
About Conservation of Energy
- Conservation of Energy is important when calculating energy transfers.
- The total energy in a closed system must remain the same, so when one energy store loses energy other energy stores must gain that amount of energy.
Key Stage 4
Meaning
Conservation of Energy is a Scientific Law which states that "Energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only be transferred from one store into another".
About Conservation of Energy
- Conservation of Energy is important when calculating energy transfers.
- The total energy in a closed isolated system must remain the same, so when one energy store loses energy other energy stores must gain that amount of energy.
- If a system is an open system energy can leave the system, but the energy is not destroyed.
- In a closed isolated system energy can be dissipated, which means it is still in the system but is wasted and cannot be recovered to perform useful work.
