Key Stage 4

Meaning

A diagram of a ribosome synthesising a protein.

A ribosome is a complex molecule found inside cells that is the site of protein synthesis.

Function

Ribosomes build proteins for the cell from amino acids.

About Ribosomes

Ribosomes are made of RNA and protein and take instructions form the nucleus to synthesize proteins.
DNA in the nucleus creates a length of RNA which leaves the nucleus and attaches to a ribosome to synthesise a protein.
