Molecule

Key Stage 3

Meaning

A molecule is a particle made of two or more atoms chemically bonded together.

About Molecules

A molecule can be shown in a diagram using The Dalton Model of atoms.
A molecule could be made of many of the same type of atom so it is an element.
Molecules can be made of many different types of atom and these molecules are called compounds.

Examples

NitrogenMolecule.png
OxygenMolecule.png
WaterMolecule.png
CarbonDioxideMolecule.png
This is a molecule of two Nitrogen atoms bonded together making it an element. This is two Oxygen atoms bonded together into a molecule. A water molecule is a compound made of one Oxygen bonded with two Hydrogen atoms. Carbon Dioxide is a compound molecule made of one Carbon atom and two Oxygen atoms bonded together.
