Meaning
The Sievert (Sv) is the SI Unit of radiation dose.
About Sieverts
- Sieverts are shortened to Sv with an upper case S and a lower case v.
- A Sievert is one Joule of energy transferred to one Kilogram of tissue by ionising radiation.
- The magnitude of a radiation dose is related to the harmful effects of ionising radiation. 1 sievert represents a 5.5% risk of causing cancer.
