Meaning

A potometer is device used to measure the water loss of a plant through transpiration.

Etymology

Poto - Ancient Greek for water. Hippopotamus (Horse of the Water). Meter - To measure something.

About Potometers

A potometer can be used in investigate the effects of different factors on the rate of transpiration.

In this potometer a bubble moves along a pipe to indicate how much water has been lost by transpiration. In this potometer the water level is measured to determine how much water has been lost in transpiration.
