Key Stage 4

Meaning

The elastic limit is the maximum force which can be applied before an object stops behaving elastically and starts to behave plastically (inelastically).

About the Elastic Limit

When an object reaches its elastic limit it will break.
When an object experiences a force smaller than the elastic limit then its extension is proportional to the equilibrium force applied.
When an object experiences a force greater than the elastic limit then its extension is not proportional to the equilibrium force applied. It will continue to extend with a constant force.
