Key Stage 4

Meaning

A diagram showing several phloem cells with companion cells and sieve plates.

A phloem cell is a plant cell that forms hollow tubes used in the transport of sugars around a plant.

About Phloem Cells

Phloem cells have large vacuoles which join to the vacuoles in the next phloem cell to make a tube.
The cell walls between phloem cells gets small holes to allow sugar to pass through. This is called a sieve plate.
