Key Stage 4
Meaning
Alkalinity is the strength of an alkali determined by the concentration of Hydroxide ions in solution.
About Alkalinity
- When a base dissolves in water to produce an alkali not all of the Hydrogen ions will dissociate from the base.
- The strength of an alkali, or its alkalinity, is determined by how easily Hydroxide ions are formed.
- The more easily Hydroxide ions form, the stronger the alkali (the higher the alkalinity).
