Key Stage 4

Meaning

Alkalinity is the strength of an alkali determined by the concentration of Hydroxide ions in solution.

About Alkalinity

When a base dissolves in water to produce an alkali not all of the Hydrogen ions will dissociate from the base.
The strength of an alkali, or its alkalinity, is determined by how easily Hydroxide ions are formed.
The more easily Hydroxide ions form, the stronger the alkali (the higher the alkalinity).
