To compress is to make something shorter or smaller in volume by applying a force.

- Gas can be compressed easily but solids and liquids cannot be compressed because the particles in a solid and liquid are already touching.

- Gas can be compressed easily but solids and liquids cannot be compressed because the particles in a solid and liquid are already touching.
