Key Stage 3

Meaning

Conservation of Energy is a Scientific Law which states that "Energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only be transferred from one store into another".

About Conservation of Energy

Conservation of Energy is important when calculating energy transfers.
The total energy in a closed system must remain the same, so when one energy store loses energy other energy stores must gain that amount of energy.

Key Stage 4

Meaning

Conservation of Energy is a Scientific Law which states that "Energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only be transferred from one store into another".

About Conservation of Energy

Conservation of Energy is important when calculating energy transfers.
The total energy in a closed isolated system must remain the same, so when one energy store loses energy other energy stores must gain that amount of energy.
If a system is an open system energy can leave the system, but the energy is not destroyed.
In a closed isolated system energy can be dissipated, which means it is still in the system but is wasted and cannot be recovered to perform useful work.
