About the Female Reproductive System
- In mammals the female reproductive system is adapted to make egg cells, receive sperm cells from the male and carry the offspring inside before giving birth.
There are several organs in the female reproductive system that you should know:
- Vagina - Where the male inserts the penis and where the offspring come out during birth.
- Cervix - A ring of muscle that keeps the offspring inside until birth.
- Uterus - Where the offspring develops before birth.
- Oviduct - A tube connecting the ovary to the uterus allowing an ovum to travel to the uterus.
- Ovary - This is where the ova is made and stored.
