Meaning
The gas tests are a series of experiments used to identify which gas has been produced in a chemical reaction.
The Gas Tests
- Use a delivery tube to bubble the gas through Limewater.
- If the Limewater turns from transparent to cloudy then the gas is Carbon Dioxide.
- Collect the gas in a test tube.
- Place a lit splint over the mouth of the test tube.
- If a 'squeaky pop' sound is made then the gas is Hydrogen.
- Collect the gas in a test tube.
- Place a glowing splint over the mouth of the test tube.
- If the splint relights then the gas is Oxygen.
- Collect the gas in a test tube.
- Place a piece of litmus paper over the mouth of the test tube.
- If the litmus paper is bleached white then the gas is Chlorine.
