Meaning

A substance is what things are made out of.

Examples

Water is a substance.
Salt Water is a substance.
Plastic is a substance. There are many different types of plastic.
Metal is a substance. There are many different types of metal.

Used in a Sentence

A lake is full of a substance called water.
The sea is made of salt water.
A ruler can be made of a substance called plastic.
The substance that is used to make swords is metal.
