Meaning
The ball and stick model is diagram or object used to show the arrangement of atoms in a compound.
About Ball and Stick Model
- A ball and stick model gives more detail than a chemical formula about the arrangement of atoms in a compound as a chemical formula simply states the number of atoms of each element while the ball and stick model displays the locations of atoms and the chemical bonds holding them together.
Examples
| Propane | Propene | Propan-1-ol | Propanoic Acid | But-1-ene | Butan-1-ol | |
| Chemical Formula | C3H8 | C3H6 | C3H7OH | C3H6O2 | C4H8 | C4H9OH |
| Structural Formula | CH3CH2CH3 | CH2CHCH3 | CH3CH2CH2OH | CH3CH2COOH | CH2CHCH2CH3 | CH3CH2CH2CH2OH |
