Key Stage 3

Meaning

A solute is a solid that has been dissolved in a liquid to make a solution.

About Solutes

A solute began as a solid but becomes part of the liquid when it dissolves.
Not all solids can become solutes. It depends on whether the solid is soluble.
A solute can be separated from a solution by evaporating the solvent in the solution.
