About Acid Rain
- Acid rain is formed when certain gases dissolve in the rain to make it acidic:
- Sulphur Dioxide dissolves to form Sulphurous Acid
- Nitrous Oxides dissolve to form Nitric Acid
- Carbon Dioxide dissolves to form Carbonic Acid
- Acid rain corrodes buildings and statues made of limestone due to a neutralisation reaction.
- Acid rain can damage plant growth because it makes the soil more acidic.
