A plasmid is a small ring of chromosomal DNA found in a bacterium.

About Plasmids

Plasmids are additional pieces of DNA to the loop of DNA found in bacteria.

Plasmids are used in genetic engineering because they are small, simple lengths of DNA which can easily have genes added or removed.
