Key Stage 3

Meaning

A Compound is a molecule made of 2 or more different types of atom.

About Compounds

A compound is made of different elements chemically bonded together.

Examples

A water molecule is a compound made of one Oxygen bonded with two Hydrogen atoms. Carbon Dioxide is a compound molecule made of one Carbon atom and two Oxygen atoms bonded together. This compound is a made from one Carbon atom and four Hydrogen atoms bonded together and it called Methane. Ethanol (Alcohol) is a compound made of two Carbon atoms, six Hydrogen atoms and one Oxygen atom bonded together.
