High level nuclear waste is nuclear waste with a many different unstable isotopes with different half lives and a high level of radioactivity.

About High Level Nuclear Waste

High level nuclear waste requires shielding to prevent irradiation of living organisms and containment to prevent contamination of the environment.
High level nuclear waste releases a lot of energy which increases the temperature of the material so it requires cooling to prevent it heating up so much that melts or catches fire.
